Description

Kensington, London born right handed batsman Tom Barling’s  first-class career with Surrey lasted from 1927 to 1948, his final match coming against the Australian Tourists at The Oval in May 1948. During his career he scored 19,209 runs in 391 first class matches at an average of 34.61, with 34 hundreds, 99 half centuries and a highest score of 269. He also took 7 wickets with his occasional bowling and held 172 catches across his cricket career.

During the Second World War, he served in the Coastal Command of the RAF. After retiring from first class cricket, he was a coach at Harrow School from 1948 to 1966.

NB in the photograph taken in a match against Lancashire on 24th August 1935, Barling is caught by Ernest Tyldesley off the bowling of Frank Booth.
