Spring Hill, Leicester born right-arm fast bowler William Benskin played first-class cricket for Leicestershire and Scotland between 1906 and 1924. Remarkably his first wickets in first class cricket were a hat-trick: he finished off the Essex first innings on his debut for Leicestershire at Southend in 1906. Benskin played 105 first class matches and managed 5 ten wicket matches and 17 five wicket innings, taking 325 wickets at 25.87 a piece, with a best performance of 8-86. He was also a tail end right-hand batsman who scored 954 runs with a highest score of 79 not out, his only half century in first class cricket, in which he had a batting average of 8.36. He also took 30 catches.
