Description
Old Leake, Boston, Lincolnshire born Cyril Bland was a lower order right-hand batsman and right-arm fast bowler who appeared in 147 first class matches for Sussex between 1897 and 1904. He scored 998 runs with a highest score of 59 at an average of 6.43 and took 557 wickets with a best performance of ten for 48. Bland achieved his ten wickets in an innings feat playing for Sussex against Kent at the Angel Ground, Tonbridge in 1900. His bowling average was a modest 24.28 but he was clearly very effective on the right wicket, and took five wickets in an innings 44 times, bowling 11 ten wicket matches.
