Description
Jericho, Oxford born Alex Bowell was a right-handed batsman who bowled right-arm medium-fast bowler who played for Hampshire between 1902 and 1927. Bowell made his first class debut for Hampshire in the 1902 County Championship against Derbyshire and went on to play 475 first class matches. Described in 1922 as “one of the three biggest run getters in the team”, in his career he scored 18,509 runs with 25 centuries and a high score of 204, and 90 half centuries, at an average of 24.13. His bowling yielded 34 wickets at an average of 51.94 with a best performance of 4-20. He also took 255 catches in his first class career and made 2 stumpings as an occasional wicket-keeper.
