Description
Johannesburg, Transvaal born John Cochran was a tall, well-built fast bowler, able to move the ball both ways off the pitch, who in a first class career of three seasons, represented Transvaal and Griqualand West from 1929-30 to 1931-32. He was selected for a single Test match for South Africa when he opened the bowling against England at Durban in the final Test of the 1930-31 series in February 1931. His 23 overs cost 47 runs without producing a wicket and he did not bowl in the second innings. It was his only match for South Africa. In 6 first class matches he took 15 wickets at 24.06 apiece with a best performance of 3-34. His batting average in those matches was just over 4, with a best score of 13.
