Sutton-on-Trent, Nottinghamshire born John Day was a right hand lower-middle order batsman and medium pace bowler who played for Nottinghamshire between 1903 and 1907, featuring in 61 first class matches. He scored two half centuries with a highest score of 88 with the bat, scoring 1,233 runs at an average of 14.01, and took 27 wickets in first class matches at an average of 35.18 runs a piece, with a best bowling performance of 5-50, his only five wicket innings. He also held 36 catches in first class games.
