Northampton born right-arm medium pace bowler and right-hand middle or lower order batsman William East made his County debut for Northamptonshire in 1905 and came to early prominence as the mainstay of the Northamptonshire attack with G.J.Thompson. He took 68 wickets in 1906 and headed the averages in 1907, taking 78 wickets at 16.80 a piece. A useful batsman, he scored just over 4,000 runs in his 163 first class match career at an average of 17.29 with a highest score of 86 not out. He finished with one short of 500 wickets in the first class game, claimed at an average of 20.90 a piece, recording 4 ten wicket matches and 28 five wicket innings and a best performance of 7-71.
