Macdonald Town, Sydney, New South Wales born Sid Emery was a fine medium pace googly bowler who came to the fore for New South Wales in 1909-10 taking a career best 7-28 against Victoria at Melbourne, having made his debut in State cricket the previous season. He played in only 15 Sheffield Shield matches, taking 60 wickets at 24.65.
He was a member of the 1912 Australian side in England, though after a good start he had no outstanding success. He played in his only Tests that summer – two against England and two against South Africa in the Triangular Tournament, making his debut against South Africa at Old Trafford in May 1912, but took only 5 wickets in those matches. He was also a member of the Australian team that made a long tour of North America and Bermuda in 1913, when he scored over 1,000 runs and took over 100 wickets.
1912-13 proved his last in first class cricket, by when he had played in 58 first class matches, scoring 1,192 runs at an average of 18.33 with 6 fifties and a best score of 80 not out. With his bowling he took 183 wickets at 23.79 apiece, three times taking ten wickets in a match with 11 five wicket innings hauls.
