Description
Toxteth, Liverpool born Charles Eyre was educated at Harrow School and played for the School Eleven, including playing against Eton at Lord’s. He went up to Cambridge University and played for the University cricket eleven as a right-hand batsman between 1903 and 1906, his only century of 153 (and his highest score) was made against Yorkshire at Fenners in May 1906, helping the University to a 305 run victory. Eyre was also a member of the M.C.C Tour to North America in 1905.
Eyre scored 1,092 runs at an average of 21.41 in 30 first class matches. During those matches he took 2 wickets with his occasional bowling at an average of 25.00, with best figures of 1-9, and took 40 catches.
He was killed in action during the First World War in fighting near Loos on September 25th, 1915, aged 32.
