Description
Birkdale, Lancashire born Thomas Foster was a right-arm medium pace bowler who played thirteen matches for Yorkshire in 1894 and 1895. He also played a first class game for XI of Yorkshire against XI of Lancashire in 1894, and represented the Yorkshire Second XI in 1893.
Despite the brevity of his career, it was not without its considerable successes, and he took 58 wickets at 16.41 apiece in those matches, including his career best of 9-59 against the Marylebone Cricket Club (M.C.C.) at Lord’s in 1894. Foster also took 7-56 against Warwickshire. He took five wickets in an innings five times, and ten wickets in a match on three occasions. A right-handed tail ender, he scored 138 runs at an average of 9.20, with a top score of 25. It’s uncertain why, with such successful bowling figures, he didn’t continue playing cricket beyond 1895.
