Ladywell, Lewisham, London born Edward Freeman was a right-handed batsman and wicket-keeper who played 55 first class matches for Essex between 1904 and 1912. As a batsman he scored 1,280 runs at an average of 14.54, with 7 half centuries and a highest score of 84. He also took one wicket in first class cricket as an occasional bowler.
He was the elder brother of fellow Essex cricketer John Freeman, their father, also Edward Freeman, played 5 times for Essex in the mid 1890’s, and his son Douglas Freeman played for Kent once in 1937.
