Description
Balmain, Sydney, New South Wales born slow left-arm orthodox spinner Bill Hunt played only 17 State matches for New South Wales over three seasons, making his debut in the 1929-30 season. Considered one of Australia’s most promising bowlers, he was selected for his Australian Test debut against South Africa at Adelaide at the end of January 1932, although he was sparingly used and didn’t take a wicket, nor did he make a run although he did hold a catch. However later that year, with The Depression in full swing, he accepted an offer to play League cricket in England and never returned to the first class game. In his 18 matches he took 62 wickets at 23.00 apiece, and twice took five wickets in an innings, with a best return of 5-36. With the bat his highest score was 45 and he had a respectable average for a tail ender of 14.33.
