Description
Launceston, Tasmania born right-handed batsman Geoffrey Martin played 23 first class matches for Tasmania between his State debut in 1921 and his final match in 1933. His highest score of 121 was against the English tourists in 1924, when he came in at 39-4 before dominating the crease for the next 176 minutes. Although this was his only century, he averaged 24.02 in first class matches with a further 5 half centuries to his credit. He also took 19 catches in first class play. During the First World War he served in the Australian Imperial Forces, fighting with the 17th Artillery Battery. He played his club cricket for South Launceston and in their 1914-15 season his average of 649 runs at 81.12 topped the Northern Tasmania Cricket Association averages. In 1930-31 he scored his best aggregate, 1,048 runs at an average of 53.00.
