Description
Adelaide, South Australia born all-rounder Harry Simms batted right handed and was a right-arm fast bowler who made his County Championship debut for Sussex in 1905, and played regularly for the County until 1913. In 1912 he played first class cricket for Marylebone Cricket Club (M.C.C.), and also represented The Europeans in India between 1909-10 and 1916-17. After the First World War, he continued in County cricket with Warwickshire, playing for them in 1921 and 1922.
In 110 first class matches, Simms scored 3,154 runs at an average of 17.92, with a single century, his highest score being 126, and 11 half centuries. With his bowling he took 220 wickets at 19.47 apiece, with a best performance of 7-84 and he took five wickets or more in an innings on 12 occasions. Additionally he took 71 catches in first class play.
His younger brother, Royston, also played first class cricket for Sussex in 1912.
