Potternewton, Leeds born amateur cricketer Geoffrey Wilson was educated at Harrow School and during the First World War he served in The Royal Marines. After the war he went up to Trinity College, Cambridge, playing ten matches for Cambridge University in 1919 and 1920. He made his debut for Yorkshire in 1919 and played 92 matches for the County between 1919 and 1924, being the County’s captain from 1922 to 1924, when they were County Champions in each of his seasons at captain.
As a batsman in 115 first class matches he scored 1,801 runs at an average of 16.22, with a best of 142 not out for the M.C.C. against Victoria, his only century, when he took part in the M.C.C. tour to Australia and New Zealand in 1922-23. He took one first class wicket with his occasional right arm medium pace bowling, and held 44 catches in first class play.
